Montville Broncos Football
Policy and Philosophy
“Players Play, Coaches Coach,
Parents Cheer!”
Players
are to have fun, learn and strengthen the fundamentals,
their understanding of the rules and how the game of
football is played. Players feeling confident in their own
abilities and teamwork is essential at all levels.
Practice
begins the first week of August. We encourage all families to schedule vacations prior to the first day of practice.
As your Players attendance during the first four weeks is essential to prepare him for the season.
Players must have completed a minimum of three practices prior to commencement of any
live contact with other players.
League:
The Broncos are members of the Morris County Youth Football
League and assigned to the National Conference based on
school enrollment.
Games are primarily on weekends, with the exception of the extra upper level
Central Conference Games, beginning in September and ending
mid November.
Eligibility
All players will play on the
team at the lowest level for their age and weight; players
may play up to stay with their own school grade.
Coaches will teach the
fundamentals and the core Offensive and Defensive schemes to
all players, at every level, during the month of August.
All players will be evaluated
for positions during practice the month of August, not to be
confused with “tryouts” in other sports. Positions, which
are subject to change at any time, are based on the
demonstrated skills, abilities, attitude, behavior, and
coachability of the players.
Missed practices or games for
any unexcused absence will result in a proportional
reduction in playing time in the next game. Coaches should
be notified prior to any absences or as soon as possible.
Players will not be cut from
the team with the exception of disciplinary reasons.
Disciplinary problems will result in loss of practice time
and missed game time.
Pre Clinic, Clinic, and Super Pee Wee Teams
This level is defined by the
league as “instructional.”
Coaches are allowed on the
field of play and certain rule modifications exist to aid in
the flow of the game.
League standings are not
maintained at this level.
When there are enough players to form
two teams at any one level, teams will be divided as equally
as possible.
Coaches will attempt to
assign each player to at least one starting position.
Developmental Team is a
non-league team of 7 year old/2nd grade players
with pick-up games.
Pee Wee, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Teams
This level is defined by the
league as “competitive.”
Playing time is increasingly
dependent on the demonstrated skills, abilities, attitude,
behavior, and coachability of the player
When there are a large number of players
requiring the formation of two totally separate and distinct teams
at one level, teams will first be attempted to be placed within the
league’s National or American Conference. If the league cannot
accommodate that, then one team will play in the National Conference
and one will play in the Central Conference.
Coaches
All coaches must be certified by the
Township of Montville and be approved by the Broncos Football
Director prior to coaching.
Coaches are to conduct themselves as
positive role models at all times. Coaches are encouraged to
maintain a positive attitude around the players at all times.
Coaching badges must be displayed at
all times on the practice field, at all games, and at team
functions.
Any coach ejected from a game by an
official or in violation of any policy will result in an automatic
one (1) week suspension from all games and practices, on field
communication prohibited, in addition to any league and town
sanctions. A second violation will result in suspension for the
season in addition to other league and town sanctions.
Parent Guidelines
All parents and spectators must
adhere to the Montville Township Recreation Athletic Code of
Conduct, and Broncos policies.
Drop off and pick up your child on
time for all games and practices.
Players should be fully dressed on
the field approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of practice.
Township and league policy states
that only Players, Certified Football Coaches and their
Assistants are permitted anywhere on the field at any time.
Failure to abide with this policy will, unfortunately, result in a
loss of playing time being enforced upon the player. At no time
should any coach be approached on the practice or game field, except
in an emergency.
Parents and family are strongly
encouraged to ATTEND and CHEER at all practices and games to help
ensure a positive and fulfilling experience for all the youth
football players.
Parents and spectators are encouraged
to maintain a positive attitude around the players at all times.
Negativism and criticism will have a detrimental effect on your
child’s individual performance, the team, and will not be
tolerated.
Parents or spectators deemed engaging
in any Unsportsmanlike Conduct by the referees, league, or
directors, overtly or insidiously, will result in an automatic one
(1) week suspension from attending all games and practices in
addition to any league and town sanctions. Failure to abide with
this policy will, unfortunately, result in the penalty being
enforced upon the player. A second ejection will result in a
suspension for the season in addition to other league and town
sanctions.
Any parent or spectator ejected from
a game by an official will result in an automatic one (1) week
suspension from attending all games and practices in addition to any
league and town sanctions. Failure to abide with this policy will,
unfortunately, result in the penalty being enforced upon the
player. A second ejection will result in a suspension for the
season in addition to other league and town sanctions.
24 Hour Rule.
Concerns must be addressed off the field of play after any game,
practice, or meeting. When concerned parties are emotionally charged
they must allow an appropriate amount of time to pass, generally 24
hours, that will permit an open and rational discussion.
Concerns should first be addressed
with the Head Coach. If that does not result in a satisfactory
resolution then it may be brought to the Directors and, if
necessary, then the Broncos Board.
Please return all equipment at the
end of the season clean, unaltered, and on time to avoid penalty.
Broncos Football is part of an all
volunteer, non-profit, organization requiring everyone’s
assistance to operate successfully. Therefore, as is common
practice in youth sports programs, parents must contribute four (4)
hours of their time, determined by the Directors or their designees,
to the program in consideration for their child’s participation in
the program. Failure to abide with this policy will, unfortunately,
result in a loss of playing time being enforced upon the player.
Please try to support all Broncos
functions; this is a significant part of how your child’s programs
are funded.
Remember:
All coaches are unpaid volunteers who devote considerable time and
effort to the players and the program at much personal sacrifice.
Please take the time to say thank you!
